Calcite is the stable form of Calcium Carbonate at ordinary pressure and over a large range of temperature. The varieties of calcite are very numerous, and diverse in appearance. They depend mainly on differences in crystallization, structural condition and presence of impurities, etc. Limestone, Marble and Chalk are the different varieties of calcite depending upon the crystallization and accidental impurities.
